The new Pad.

I wanted to post a few pictures of our new ‘crushpad’ here at Bastianich. I manged to actually get smart and take some pictures of the work in progress.

Here is how the area looked before:CIMG0492 As you can see, with ONE press, the space was tight, now that we have TWO, it was impossible. Also, grape delivery was difficult. Tractors had to back in. The (now) inadequate refrigeration system is mounted on the wall above the press in the shadow. The concrete ramp in the back is quite steep. You can also see that 3 rows of vines have already been removed to the right of the foto.

Here’s a shot of the new Pad, almost ready:Pad Look at all the lovely SPACE! I can speak from experience that when you work in a small cantina, there’s nothing more lovely than adequate space…

or maybe a pair of dry shoes.

Another angle:Pad2 This is the space where all the action will be happening in just a couple of weeks… There’ll be a moving roof installed to protect from possible rain, the new BUCHER press will be out there along with plenty of other stuff and people.

Expect to see plenty of photos set in this area during the harvest blog…

Now if we could only get some more office space I’d be a happy camper!

Digging deep you can see the HUGE boulders that lie below the surface…

Almost all the old concrete is out and the pad is almost completely dug out of the hill.

It just goes to show that even when your winery is fairly new, it’s always a work in progress.
